Home-Stay Weekend in Nakagawa Rice-Planting in the Spring 2009

2009年5月9日に開かれた田植えの様子です。 The following pictures were taken during the Rice Planting on May 9th, 2009.

前日の８日に「流し素麺」用の 「バンブースライダー」を作製しました。 On May 8th, the day before the event, we made the bamboo slide for the "nagashi somen" noodles.
「バンブースライダー」はもう少しで完成です。 The bamboo slide, nearly complete.
受付風景です。 地元の小学生もたくさん参加します。 The registration desk. Many local elementary school students participated.
ボチボチと外国人たちも集まってきました。 Ready to go with the foreign nationals all gathered.
開会式では 最初に主催者の国際交流事業企画運営委員会 小泉委員長のあいさつがありました。 At the opening ceremony, Mr. Koizumi, chairperson of the International Event Planning and Implementation Committee, which is a sponsor, spoke first.
那珂川町教育委員会桑野教育長からもごあいさつをいただきました。 We received greetings from Nakagawa Town Superintendent of Education Kuwano.
続いて外国人参加者の自己紹介が行われました。 代表してデレック・オルソンさんを掲載します。 Next, the foreign national participants introduced themselves. We show Dereck Olson's introduction here.
今や遅しと田植えを待っている「田んぼ」です。 The rice paddy waits impatiently.
その「田んぼ」へ続々と移動中です。 On the move towards the rice paddy.
今年も「田植えマイスター増子さん」の「田植えレクチャー」が行われました。 This year, master rice-planter Mashiko gave a lecture on rice-planting.
増子さんのレクチャーを熱心に聴く参加者たち Participants listen in earnest to Mashiko's lecture.
田植え開始！ 先陣を切っているのは頬被りがよく似合うデレックさんです。 Start planting! Taking the lead is Dereck, lookin' good with his head wrapped in a towel.
今年は最高のお天気で「田植え日和」でした。 This year we had the best of weather, truly “rice planting weather”.
熱心に植えているようです。 Looks like they're enthusiastically planting.
満面の笑みのミアさん！ A big smile fills Mia's face!
なかなかイイ手付きじゃないですか！ Doesn't he have a pretty good touch!
ポーズをとっているのは文星女子高校の４人です。 Four students from Bunsei Girls High School strike a pose.
ご存知マルちゃん！ Well-known Maru-chan!	初参加のマイクさん。 正式には「渡マイク」さんです。 日本人の方と結婚されたので 名前が変わりました。 Mike, participating for the first time. To be correct, it's Mike Watari. Because he married a Japanese, his name was changed.
増子さんの「田植え唄」が今年も流れ 苗を植える手が速くなりました。 Mr. Mashiko's rice-planting song rang out again this year, encouraging the hands planting the rice to pick up the pace.
那珂川町ケーブルテレビが今年も取材に訪れました。 Nakagawa Town's cable television came to shoot footage again this year.
ｙａｓｓａｎちの娘さんです。 Yassan's daughter.
大分植えましたね。 The majority of the paddy has been planted.
ラストスパート！ Last dash to the finish!
那珂川町ケーブルテレビのインタビューを受けるミアさん As part of her new job with the cable television station, HP Master Mr. Hoshi's daughter interviews Mia.
もう一組もインタビューを受けています。 Another group is interviewed.
上々の出来じゃないですか！？ Isn't this well-done!?
特設シャワーで泥んこになった手足を洗います。 Washing mud off of hands and feet at a specially setup shower.
今年もボランティアによるピザの無料サービスがありました。 本当に美味しかったです。 Volunteers run a free pizza service again this year. It truly was delicious.
昼食のメインは「流し素麺」です。 Nagashi Somen noodles were the main dish for lunch.
今年も「芳井夢の会」や「舟戸元気かい」 そして「芳井福寿会」のみなさんの手づくりのご馳走が並びました。 This year, everyone from the Yoshii Yume no Kai, Funado Genki Kai, and Yoshii Fukuju Kai community groups once again created this spread of homemade dishes.
記念撮影をしようとしていたので シャッターを押してあげたついでにマイカメラでも撮ってみました。 Because I was shooting a commemorative photo, and pressing the shutter I tried taking shots with a personal camera.
メッセージ・ボードに思い思いのことを綴っています。 The message board fills with thoughts and memories.
食後のひと時、ホルヘさんの歌が披露されました。 Jorge Alejandro Morales Jara sings the Columbian national anthem for everyone during a pause after lunch.
閉会式では外国人を代表してマイクさんからスピーチがありました。 At the closing ceremony, Mike gives a speech on behalf of the foreign national participants.
ボランティアを代表して 「ｙａｓｓａｎ」からあいさつがありました。 Yassan represents the volunteers and thanks everyone.	今年は奥さんの里子さんからも あいさつがありました。 This year, Yassan's wife Satoko also says a few words to everyone.
今年もｙａｓｓａｎちの「日本一美味しいコシヒカリ」のほか たくさんのおみやげがありました。 "The most delicious rice in Japan, "Koshi Hikari" from Yassan's farm is again given as a souvenir this year.
全員集合して記念撮影です。 秋の稲刈りでまた会いましょう！ Everyone gathers for a commemorative photo. We hope to see you again in the fall when it is time to harvest the rice!
